Gemma, superb article. I have been wanting to create something like this for some time but you had said it better and more clearly!

I am fascinated on why people are so much more pulled to the idea of carnivore and keto diets that eating plant based or mainly plant based diets - I find myself wondering what speaks to us about eating meat? I find it incredible when eating a plant based diet is so delicious, varied and clearly helps me and so many I work with. I do wonder if we don’t realise that cutting out highly refined carbs ( that no one should be eating much of ) and processed foods is actually what they are feeling good about in the short term).Perhaps we need some research on the psyche behind this- id be fascinated!

Ill share this to my networks too and needs to reach a wide audience. Thank you for your time and care in collating this.

Tonya your support means the world. And I think you are right, there is definitely a pull towards carnivore which I never anticipated when I first heard of this way of eating. I think there are many reasons why it is more appealing. There is the inherent perceived masculinity of meat . There is the pleasure of eating something with lots of calories and fat. Having evolved to eat pretty much anything based on our ability to traverse and survive in vastly different natural habitats, dense sources of both calories and fat are of course evolutionarily important. Not that we need saturated fat anymore when our biggest killer now is heart disease and clogged arteries… ! And I agree, eating plants has been a real adventure for me. Learning to incorporate different cuisines and improving my blood lipids and body composition were all side benefits…!

Thank you, this was so helpful to me, as I want to prevent a spot on my lung from becoming cancer and have been trying to use food as preventative medicine. I can’t thank you enough for writing this now, as so many well intentioned people are giving me advice about food and many are being very pushy for me to eat more meat or do keto and I feel glad to know there’s nothing wrong with staying with a Mediterranean diet with a touch of the macrobiotic diet (just because I like the idea of eating locally, I enjoy the foods and leaving less of a footprint, but I do know the macrobiotic diet is not approved by the ACA and sadly that Mr. Kushi died of cancer). I’m not a vegetarian, I just enjoy eating fruits, vegetables, beans and rice/grains, more than meats, most days.

Thank you so much! That means a lot. With over a billion downloads, the diary of a CEO has so much influence and it feels so hard to see misinformation go unchallenged…so your enthusiastic shares mean a lot to me. X
